How to play Wordle
Wordle is the New York Times' daily word game. You get six tries to guess a hidden five-letter word, and everyone gets the same word each day. After each guess the tiles change colour: green means the letter is right and in the right place, yellow means it is in the word somewhere else, and grey means it is not in the word at all.
Using the hints above
Each hint sits behind a tap, so you decide how much to see. Start with the first letter or the vowel count, open the clue if you are still stuck, and treat the answer as a last resort. The visual hint is the middle ground — it shows what a common opener scores today without naming a letter of the answer.
Four habits that save guesses
- Open with a word rich in common letters and vowels — CRANE, SLATE and ADIEU all qualify.
- Spend guess two on fresh letters. Re-testing a grey letter buys nothing.
- Check for repeats before you run out of turns; assuming five distinct letters is the most common way to lose.
- When stuck, write out the letters you have confirmed and work the pattern rather than guessing words at random.
